Ministry @ University of Wisconsin Madison - Student Org fairs

Hello all,

Now is the time for Student Organization fairs. Most every professional school that I work in has many student organizations that students can take part in. Our Christian groups are part of the mix of student groups. And early fall, each school has a one to two hour student org fair for the new students to check out. This is where the photos come from. Students sign up who are interested in our group. September is my biggest month so prayers are always appreciated.

Survey results in - UW Madison #1 Party School

Yipes! An honor that we do not want to have in this place. It is not something to be proud of and we at UW desire more for our students.

Survey Ranks Wis. School Tops in Drinking

By JR ROSS, Associated Press Writer Mon Aug 22, 5:44 PM ET

MADISON, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Madison topped a list of the nation's best party schools released Monday, despite a decade-long effort by the school to reduce its reputation for heavy drinking.

Meanwhile, Brigham Young University led "stone cold sober" schools for the eighth straight year.
The rankings are based on survey responses regarding alcohol and drug use, hours of study each day, and the number of students in fraternities and sororities.

Schools often criticize the list, while the American Medical Association has urged Princeton Review to stop putting it out, saying it legitimizes students' drinking.

UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley dismissed the report as "junk science that results in a day of national media coverage."

The chairman of the campus student government, though, said many students would take pride in the ranking considering the university's other reputation as a top academic institution.

U.S. News and World Report ranked UW-Madison No. 34 among national universities in its annual survey last week.
"It just shows that we work hard but we play hard also," said Eric Varney, chair of the Associated Students of Madison.

The list — which is not affiliated with Princeton University — is based on online surveys of more than 110,000 college students and is included in the Princeton Review's "Best 361 Colleges."
Robert Franek, who authored the report, said students are looking for more than just a classroom experience when they pick a college.

"The mission is very simple — to provide information to make the college search palatable for a student and all of them to find a school that's the best fit for them," he said.

Other universities listed in the Top 10 party schools were Ohio University-Athens, Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, University of California-Santa Barbara, State University of New York at Albany, Indiana University-Bloomington, University of Mississippi, University of Iowa, University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Loyola University New Orleans.

Here I am in the midst of student organization sign up at the Vet school. Notice the candy, that is our big draw!!!! Posted by Picasa

University is off and running

The University is starting to come back to life after a summer of slow down. The students are getting ready to begin again, many with great reluctance. Some of my students are coming back at the very last minute.

The Vet school has already started with Incoming student orientation. Monday, yesterday and today at noon student organizations have their booths out to attract new students. That would include our group : Christian Vet Mission Fellowship. Please begin to pray for God's lead and blessing as I start the school year across the professional schools.

Fun at Public TV

Mary Alice and I enjoy doing things together. One of the things we do, the quarterly public TV fund drive. Mary Alice is behind the camera and I answer phones. It is fun and a way to be involved in a medium that influences our culture. Hands down, public TV offers the best programing around. The cartoons for kids the last 10 year are the best - filled with good moral choices. A little different than when I was a kind and Wily E. Coyate was trying to kill and eat the road runner. And had many near death experiences.

Visit to my Mothers

Many have expressed interest in seeing some photos from my visit to my Mom's house. Here they are. This summer all 5 siblings helped to move from Mom from her home of 35 years in Hopkinsville, KY to a place nearer to my sister Susan in Evansville, Indiana.
